Welcome to the Library!
My name is Sara White, and I am the school librarian for Sunset Valley Elementary and Stewartsville Elementary. I use mentor texts and technology to engage our students so they will interact with the library and our resources. I am an avid reader, and I hope to inspire all students to develop a lifelong love of reading!
Your child will visit the library for a 40-minute class once a six-day cycle. Students will choose one library book each cycle, starting with their second library class. Library books are expected to come back with your child on his/her designated Library Day. If your child wishes to renew a book, it should still be brought to class so that it can be renewed for another cycle. If your child forgets his/her book, s/he will be unable to take home another book until the first book is returned. There are incentives and rewards for classes who all remember to bring back their library books!
***Half-day Kindergarten students have class for 30 minutes. If a Kdg student forgets a book, they are permitted to choose another book, but both books must be returned the following class.
In order to preserve our resources for future classes, it is important that your child takes proper care of his/her library books. We will learn about a library’s purpose, circulation of books, and proper book care so that students know the expectations. If books become lost or damaged, a student’s family will be responsible for the cost to replace them. Overdue library book notices will be sent throughout the school year as necessary.
Students can earn up to 5 points each class by following our Library rules, as well as additional points for our daily activity or assignment. See the graphic for the point breakdown.
